Sultan Battery

Sultan Battery is a watchtower supposed to be built by Tipu Sultan to watch the entry of warships into the Gurpur River. It has a marvelous construction and though it was meant to be a simple watchtower. The battery, located in Boloor, was erected in black stones looking like a miniature fortress. This tower with no maintenance at all could not survive extreme weather conditions and is in ruins presently. The remaining part is known as Tipuís well.

It is situated at about 930 metres above mean sea level. One can find beautiful folded hills across the horizon. The climate is pleasant throughout the year. The town has the National Highway 212 passing through it. The town is the centre of tourism in Wayanad District. It has become a very popular destination among tourists from India's software valley.

This structure is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India. Only a portion of the fort exits which is called Tipu s well and the entire structure does not exist. It is preserved so the tourists can get a glimpse of the historic monument. Now Sultan Battery is an abandoned place with no maintenance. It could not survive extreme weather conditions and is in ruins presently. The remaining part is known as Tipu s well.
